Just recently after a university student Lawrence Warunge gave a chilling confession of how he butchered his parents, two siblings and farmhand, another student has confessed that she killed her grandmother.
Twenty-year-old Mercy Wangari Gatimu narrated to investigators how she murdered her grandmother, Beatrice Karanja, 74 by stabbing her 17 times using a kitchen knife.
Her confession, however, contradicted that of her father, Patrick Gatimu, who had also confessed to the police, that he was the one who murdered the old woman, a retired teacher.
In her confession to detectives, Wangari said she dumped the killer weapon and the clothes she was wearing in two pit latrines within the deceased’s compound after committing the heinous act.
On Monday night, Wangari led police to the two pit latrines and identified the killer weapon, a knife and metal bar which were retrieved from the latrines.
Gatimu had confessed to the police that he had killed his mother in August last year following a land dispute. Wangari was arrested after a private investigator, informed sleuths that she had confessed killing her grand mother and that she planned to commit suicide.
The duo was presented at the Kiambu High Court with no charges being preferred against them after police sought 14 days to complete investigations, before charging them formally with murder.
