“I am not a criminal” – Khalif Kairo speaks as he faces fraud allegations in court

Nairobi-based car dealer Khalif Kairo has issued a public statement asserting his innocence following his detention at Capital Hill Police Station.

Kairo revealed he had been held after an altercation involving a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer and a client on Saturday.

According to Kairo, the incident escalated when the client allegedly attempted to humiliate him by secretly recording videos of his arrest and interrogation, which were later circulated online by paid bloggers.

“I declined to ‘negotiate’ a quick settlement as expected and instead insisted on being presented in court today,” Kairo stated, emphasizing his commitment to addressing the matter through legal channels.

Kairo accused some well-connected clients of using DCI officers to frustrate him, describing the ongoing disputes as civil matters rooted in commercial agreements.

Despite his attempts to resolve the issues amicably, he claimed the situation had been exacerbated by harassment and unwarranted interference.

“I am not a criminal but one of the many honest business owners in Kenya experiencing challenges due to tough economic times,” Kairo said.
