Kenyans Angered by a Video of Woman and Son Being Whipped by In-laws

Kenyans have woken up to yet another sad video going rounds in the social media streets.

In the video, a middle-aged woman and her teenage-like are seen being whipped by men who are supposedly the woman’s in-laws.

The ruthless men whip the woman, identified as Mama Kwamboka using sticks, even as she pleads with them to spare her and her child.

Mama Kwamboka tries to beg with the onlookers, but her pleas fall on deaf ears as they do not even move a finger to help her. Worse, some are seen asking the perpetrators to strip her naked, a move considered taboo in the Luo community.

The cause of the entire fracas is said to be Mama Kwamboka’s initiative to defend her (later identified as Alfred) from the men who wanted to beat him up for unknown reasons. The ruthless men are then said to have turned on Mama Kawmboka, beating her mercilessly with her son.

The elderly man beating Mama Kwamboka is heard accusing her of being disrespectful to his brother (it is unclear whether he is referring to Mama Kwamboka’s husband or another brother).

Mama Kwamboka shouts back at him painfully saying in Luo, “Just kill me. Arrest me with him. Help me. You are killing me. You had ordered me to leave, I’m going now.”

The video saddened many Kenyans, with most of them condemning the in-laws for treating the woman in such a manner. Netizens have shared the video widely while advocating for the said in-laws to be arrested.

Prominent lawyer, Steve Ogola, has taken a step further into the matter.

Ogola announced that he had given Mama Kwamboka Ksh 50k to cater for the medical expenses of injuries caused by the beatings. He also stated Mama Kwamboka had reported the incident to Oriwo Police Station.

His post read, “I have talked to Mama Kwamboka, her son Alfred, and eldest daughter Emily Moraa. She is in great pain but is yet to receive medical treatment. I’ve sent the family KSh 50,000 for medical treatment.”

The law enforcers are yet to give a full report of the incident.

Here’s the heartbreaking video.
