The family of Kelvin Kiptum Cheruiyot, the world marathon record holder, marked his first death anniversary with an emotional tribute at his final resting place in Chepkorio, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
His parents, deeply mourning their son, were seen tending to his grave, laying flowers, and offering prayers in his honor.

Kelvin Kiptum was on the brink of becoming one of the greatest marathoners of all time when tragedy struck on February 11, 2024.
The long-distance running sensation, who had shattered the marathon world record (2:00:35) in Chicago 2023, lost his life in a fatal road accident on the Eldoret-Kaptagat road.
Kiptum, who was just 24 years old, was driving alongside his coach, Gervais Hakizimana, when the vehicle veered off the road and crashed.
Sadly, both Kiptum and Hakizimana died on the spot, leaving the athletics world in shock and mourning.
His death was a devastating blow to Kenya and the global athletics community, as he was seen as the future of marathon running, with many believing he would be the first man to break the two-hour barrier in an official race.

The couple was also captured reading the Bible, drawing strength from their faith as they continue to grieve their son’s untimely departure.
