Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has promoted the 2022 London Marathon silver medalist Joyciline Jepkosgei to the rank of Sergeant after her new achievement.
General Robert Kibochi, the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), praised the athlete and said she is a model of commitment, self-control, and sacrifice.
“We are very grateful for your continuous hard work and for representing Kenya and KDF well.
“We wish you the best as competing at such high levels requires a lot of hard work and determination. I am confident that you will continue doing better since you are still young,” stated General Kibochi.

Jepkosgei applauded the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for its ongoing assistance and was thrilled by the great gesture.
“It is an honour and I am grateful for the promotion. I appreciate the level at which the Kenya Defence Forces takes care of its athlete especially with special regard to physiotherapy,” Jepkosgei stated.
The Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of personnel and logistics, Major General Muthuri Kiugu, and the commander of the Kenyan Army, Lieutenant General Peter Njiru, were present.
Colonel Benjamin Kiprop, the defense department’s director of physical preparation and athletics, and Defence Forces Sergeant Major WOI Elijah Koranga were also there.
On Sunday, October 2, Jepkosgei came in behind Yalemzerf Yehualaw of Ethiopia, who won the 2022 London Maraton in a time of 2:17.26.
Fourth place in the competition went to Kenyan Judith Korir.
Despite the slight time gap, the Ethiopian defeated Kenya, who had hitherto dominated the annual women’s event.
Jepkosgei had a significant breakthrough in 2019, winning the half marathon and marathon in New York City in times of 1:10:07 and 2:22:38, respectively.
