KCSE Results 2024: Parents and Candidates Frustrated as KNEC System Crashes

The release of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results has been overshadowed by technical issues, leaving parents and candidates unable to access their results online.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) system reportedly crashed due to an overwhelming number of users attempting to retrieve the results simultaneously.

Education Cabinet Secretary Thursday, January 9, announced that the results would only be accessible through the KNEC portal.

Candidates and parents were advised to check the results by logging into the results.knec.ac.ke platform.

Technical Glitch Sparks Outrage

However, frustration mounted as candidates and parents took to social media to express their disappointment. Many reported failed attempts to log into the KNEC portal and delays in receiving SMS responses.

“Been trying to check my daughter’s results since morning, but the system keeps timing out. This is very frustrating,” one parent lamented on Twitter.

Another candidate wrote, “We waited so long for this day, only for the system to fail us. KNEC should have anticipated the traffic.”

Alternatives for Accessing Results

While the online portal remains down, KNEC has encouraged parents and candidates to continue using the SMS service, which has reportedly resumed functioning for some users.

Additionally, schools have been advised to provide assistance by accessing the results through their own channels.

Lessons for Future Releases

The system failure highlights the need for improved infrastructure to handle high traffic during such crucial events. Many users have called on KNEC to upgrade its servers and introduce backup systems to avoid similar incidents in the future.

For now, candidates and parents are left in limbo, waiting for the system to stabilize to celebrate their hard-earned achievements.
