Two men who had been posing as attractive female masseuses in a cunning online scam have been arrested by detectives from Kasarani Police Station.
The suspects, identified as Alex Mugo Wachira and Simon Chomba Mbogo, had been advertising fake “professional massage services” online. However, instead of delivering a relaxing session, the duo would ambush their clients and rob them.
In a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), police revealed, “Kasarani detectives have apprehended two men who have been pulling off an online con by posing as stunning females offering professional massage, only to massage away their clients’ valuables instead.”
The latest victim, expecting a soothing experience, was lured to a supposed spa along Lumumba Drive in Kasarani. The statement notes that he “perhaps dreaming of scented oils and spa music, reported the ordeal to the Kasarani Police Station.”
But once inside the residence, the experience took a dangerous turn. “Moments into the ‘massage,’ things took a sharp turn. The two whipped out knives, revealing their true identities and zero massage knowledge,” the report read.
The victim was forced to transfer Sh280,000 to the suspects’ mobile number and was robbed of other valuables before being thrown out.
Following the report, officers launched a forensic investigation which led them to a chilling spot near Kamiti prison area, where the suspects were arrested. The DCI stated the pair were “having a good time… probably using the stolen cash.”
The suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing processing pending arraignment.
Police are now warning the public to be cautious when seeking services online, especially those involving personal visits. The statement serves as a reminder that “not everything that glitters online is gold.”
