Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has spoken out following the elimination of Raila Odinga from the race for Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
Raila, who was Kenya’s candidate for the prestigious continental position, was knocked out in the sixth round of voting on Saturday, February 15, marking Kenya’s second unsuccessful attempt at securing the role.
In a statement, Sudi acknowledged the disappointment among many Kenyans but urged them to accept the outcome with grace.
“Wakenya wengi tumekuwa disappointed with the outcome of the results, but haidhuru, kila mtu aombe tonight before retiring to bed. Let us warmly welcome Baba home, as there is much work ahead,” Oscar Sudi stated
Which is loosely translated to:
“Many Kenyans have been disappointed with the outcome of the results, but it does not hurt. Everyone should pray tonight before retiring to bed. Let us warmly welcome Baba home, as there is much work ahead,” he stated.
The legislator’s remarks come amid mixed reactions from political leaders and Kenyans following Raila’s defeat.
Despite his campaign team claiming he had the backing of at least 21 countries, the former Prime Minister was eliminated after advancing through several rounds of voting.

The position was eventually won by Mahmoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti, who secured 33 votes in the seventh round to replace Moussa Faki as AUC Chairperson.
Sudi’s message highlights a call for unity and a renewed focus on national matters. With Raila now back in the local political scene, attention is likely to shift toward Kenya’s political landscape, as discussions about the 2027 General Election and other governance issues gain momentum.
As Kenya comes to terms with the results, leaders and citizens alike will be watching closely to see Raila’s next move after his continental bid.
