Yesterday, four Independent Electoral Boundaries and Commission (IEBC) commissioners dropped a bombshell that the verification process had been interfered with just when we thought everything was flowing smoothly.
Kenyans have been wanting to know more about the daring commissioners.
Mkenya Leo compiled some interesting facts about one of the commissioners, Justus Nyang’aya.
Justus Nyang’aya joined the IEBC in September last year and has been at the forefront of ensuring that the elections are conducted peacefully, transparently, credibly, and fairly.

Fact #1: He is the father of famous Youtuber Kitt Kiarie
Kitt Kiarie is famous on YouTube. Her content is mainly family and lifestyle-related. She has featured her father, Justus Nyang’aya, severally on her platform to discuss issues about family and society.
Fact #2: He has three daughters
Apart from Kitt, Nyang’aya has two more daughters, Tawi, the second born, and Mitch, the last born. It is worth noting that his daughters have well-established careers. Kitt is a sleep trainer, Tawi is a pilot, and Mitch is an actress.
Fact #3 He is a feminist
As a father to daughters, it is understandable why he is a feminist. In the many times he has appeared on his daughter’s YouTube channel, he has stated that he supports the wellness of the girl-child. He has, however, insisted that feminism means treating people equally irrespective of gender. To him, the boy-child and the girl-child must be treated equally.
Fact #4: He is related to Lupita Nyong’o
Well, the Oscar winner and Hollywood star Lupita is his niece. Lupita’s mother is his wife’s elder sister. So, we can say that he and the Kisumu County governor are “mwanyumba.” They have married from the same boma.
Fact #5: He started his career as a high-school teacher
Like anybody else, Nyang’aya started from the bottom as a high school. He is an accomplished teacher, experienced in education management and counseling.
Fact# 6: He met his wife at a teaching college in Meru.
Nyang’aya has been married to his wife Apondi Nyang’aya for over 35 years. They met while studying at a teacher’s college in Meru.
Fact #7: He was a drama teacher
He was a drama teacher during his teaching days. He taught drama with his wife.
