When it comes to body-shaming, people with big body sizes are not the only targets as we assume.
Even people with small body sizes suffer. Theirs is worse because their bullies always think they are vulnerable and easy to attack.
Actress and media personality Joyce Maina’s experience was no different.
Speaking at a podcast with fellow celebrities, Kwambox and Kerry Martin, Joyce opened up about her insecurities with her small body size when she was growing up.
She claimed how it was difficult for her to go out without make-up because she wanted to direct people’s attention off her small chest and skinniness.
She said, “I was also very insecure about my small chest and being skinny.”
Unlike other small-bodied people, Joyce always stood up against her bullies. She explained that her fighting back made her appear strong as no would dare bully her because of her small size.
“You could overpower in a fight but I had a very sleek mouth. That is why I was never bullied,” she explained.
One would expect that her insecurities to end after she started gaining gate.
But to Joyce’s and everyone’s surprise, she was still bullied despite adding weight. Joyce claimed that that was the moment when she learned that no one is perfect and the world is never satisfied.
“with time I started gainging weight and I was inscure about that as well,” she said.
Luckily, Joyce is now confident of her body and appearance as she has overcome her insecurities though she has to fight new ones.
She explained, “I have overcome those insecurities now but we are human so there are new insecurities every day.”
Other than Joyce, Mungai Eve and Rue Baby are among other celebrities who have opened up about being bullied of their small sizes.
In an interview with Jalang’o in Bonga na Jalas Show, Mungai shed tears as recounted how people were bullying her for being skinny yet she was fighting a strange disease.
Similarly, Rue Baby told MC Jessey in an interview that netizens bullied her skinniness by calling her ugly.
Fortunately, the two have also overcome their insecurities as they no longer pay attention to bullies.
