LUCK? Joao Cancelo Wins Premier League and Bundesliga Titles in Same Season
Joao Cancelo is perhaps the luckiest defender in football right now, having won two domestic crowns at the end of the 2022/23 season.
The Portugal defender began the season with Manchester City, where he made 17 appearances before joining Bayern Munich on loan in January following a squabble with Pep Guardiola.
With Bayern Munich and Manchester City emerging as English and German league champions, Cancelo, who also made 15 appearances for the Bavarians, finished the 2022/23 season with a Bundesliga and English Premier League winners medal.
Despite being second going into matchday 34, Bayern Munich prevailed 2-1 against FC Koln to win the Bundesliga for the 11th time in a row, courtesy to Borussia Dortmund’s 2-2 draw at FSV Mainz.
Cancelo’s future is uncertain because it is unclear whether Bayern will exercise their option to buy him after his loan term or if he will return to Manchester City at the conclusion of the season.
Manchester City want to trade Joao Cancelo in the summer because manager Pep Guardiola does not want him in his team after the two fell out earlier this season, according to Football 365.
Cancelo was then moved to Germany, but the Portuguese defender has yet to win over the Bavarian supporters, and it is unclear whether the club would make his loan agreement permanent.
Barcelona and Arsenal, on the other hand, are interested in signing Cancelo this summer and have informed Manchester City of their intentions before to the transfer deadline.
