“It is a sad day for democracy in this party. You may not like my message, but you must defend my right to say it…I can assure you that there is no interference from outside of ODM in what happened.

“I also urge the security agencies to take up this matter,” Wanjigi stated.

Wanjigi concluded by calling upon ODM party leader Raila Odinga to join him in condemning the incident in the strongest terms.

The Director of Campaigns and Minority Whip in the National Assembly Junet Mohammed has since issued a statement on the matter.

He alluded that sponsors of political chaos in Migori were well known, adding that he had been a victim on numerous occasions.

“As a leader in Migori County, I take great exception to the incident where a political event was disrupted. We have worked hard to create an environment where everyone can sell their policies across the Country. This was the basis of the handshake,” he began.

Mohammed called upon the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring all those concerned to the firm grip of the law.

In addition, he urged aspirants to respect government public order and public health protocols against Covid-19.

On his part, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna disclosed that his office had contacted their colleagues in Migori to get a full brief of what had transpired.

“I have also tried to reach Mr. Wanjigi on phone to confirm he is okay,” he stated.

Wanjigi is challenging ODM leader Raila Odinga for the party presidential ticket in the 2022 elections.
