Renowned media personality Jeff Koinange has once again sparked an online debate after revealing that he pays a staggering Sh50,000 per month for electricity at his home.
During a recent episode of JKL Live on Citizen TV, where he hosted Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) Managing Director John Mativo, Jeff openly questioned whether someone had tapped into his power line.
The Big Shock: Is Someone Stealing Jeff’s Power?
Jeff, known for his booming voice and infectious laughter, couldn’t hide his disbelief as he shared his concerns.
“I still do not know why I pay Sh50,000 electricity bill per month, and it’s not like I have a factory or anything. Maybe someone is tapping into my line.”
His statement resonated with many Kenyans who have often complained about rising electricity costs and unexplained high bills.
KETRACO Boss Offers a Shocking Explanation
In response, Mativo advised Jeff to conduct an efficiency audit of his home appliances, narrating how a similar case had affected his own family.
“It’s important to double-check everything. The same thing used to happen to my mother until I told her to get rid of her fridge. The bill went down by half. It was an old motor that was costing us a lot of money.”
Mativo further recommended that homeowners should regularly monitor their power consumption to avoid unnecessary losses.
“It is important to frequently have someone come and do efficiency monitoring and confirm that there is no item in your house that is losing power.”
Jeff’s Next Big Question: Can the Culprit Be Caught?
Not one to let a mystery go unsolved, Jeff pressed further, asking:
“Can we catch those guys who have been tapping into my line?”
To which Mativo, with a diplomatic chuckle, replied: “Hopefully.”
The Power Struggle: Not Jeff’s First Time Complaining
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Jeff has voiced concerns over exorbitant electricity bills. Back in 2018, he revealed he was paying a shocking Sh72,000 per month and had questioned then-Energy Principal Secretary Joseph Njoroge on when consumers would get relief from high electricity charges.
Following the revelation, Kenyans online had mixed reactions. Some sympathized with Jeff, while others found humor in the situation.
“Jeff should just host his next show from KPLC headquarters until they sort this out!” joked one Twitter user.
Others pointed out that his bill might reflect a lavish lifestyle, with one netizen saying, “When your house has more lights than a football stadium, what do you expect?”
Powering Forward: What Can Kenyans Learn?
Jeff’s experience is a wake-up call for many homeowners to monitor their electricity usage and ensure they’re not paying for someone else’s power. With cases of illegal connections and outdated appliances driving up costs, regular checks could help consumers save significantly.
As for Jeff, perhaps the mystery of his electricity bill will be solved soon. Until then, the nation waits to see if the real power thieves will be caught—or if Jeff just has too many lights on!
