Celebrated media personality Janet Mbugua has officially joined Nation Media Group (NMG), marking her return to mainstream media eight years after departing Citizen TV, where she was a prominent news anchor.
The announcement was made by NMG’s Head of Broadcasting, Simaloi Dajom, who described Mbugua as a highly skilled journalist with a proven ability to engage audiences across television, radio, and digital platforms.
“Dear Colleagues, I am excited to inform you that renowned media personality Janet Mbugua has joined Nation Media Group,” Dajom announced in a statement.
“Please join me in extending a warm NMG welcome to Janet. Let us provide her with the support she needs to settle and thrive in her role as we drive our shared vision of Positively Influencing Society.”
Mbugua, who left Citizen TV in 2017 after five years, expressed gratitude to Royal Media Services (RMS) Chairman SK Macharia during her departure, though she did not disclose her next professional move at the time.
Widely regarded as one of Kenya’s most prolific journalists, Mbugua’s career is adorned with accolades, including being named one of the top three news anchors in the country by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK). In 2016, she earned a spot on the Business Daily Africa “Top 40 Under 40” list, a recognition of her influence and achievements.
Beyond journalism, Mbugua is renowned for her advocacy for women’s and girls’ rights. She is the founder of the Inua Dada Foundation, an initiative focused on creating supportive environments for primary school girls in Kenya.
Her dedication to social impact also saw her appointed as the Kenya Advisor for The Hive in 2017, a US-based organization supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, aimed at amplifying gender equality messaging in Kenya and Tanzania.
Mbugua has also represented Kenya on global platforms as the brand ambassador for the Lifebuoy Help A Child Reach 5 campaign in 2016, further solidifying her role as a voice for social change.
Her return to the media industry at NMG is expected to bring a wealth of experience and a renewed focus on impactful storytelling, aligning with the company’s mission to positively influence society.
