Jalang’o: I will be the first Luo to be the president of Kenya
Phelix Odiwuor, aka Jalang’o, a Lang’ata MP, has recently claimed that he is working with President William Ruto to learn how to win elections.
The MP expressed his desire to lead Kenya as president in an undated video of himself speaking, ostensibly at a funeral, in Siaya.
Jalang’o claimed that Ruto’s record of never losing an election pulled him closer to him and inspired him to learn his tactics and techniques to prepare himself for the position of future head of state.
“I went to Ruto to learn skills of winning elections because Ruto has never elections since he entered politics. I went to learn how he (Ruto) has been getting it right whether it’s stealing or other ways,” he said.
According to Jalang;o he is confident that after learning the skills, he will be the first person from the Luo community to become President.
“I’m telling you I’m getting those skills and I know I will become the first person from the Luo community to become president. You will remember the statement I’m telling you today when a boy from Gem constituency gets declared president,” he added.
Jalang’o has been caught in the center of a controversy after joining the group of 9 ODM MPs who said they would not participate in Monday’s protests.
On Monday, Raila has urged his supporters to demonstrate against President Ruto’s administration.
Nonetheless, 7seven ODM Lawmakers stated at a press conference held at the Parliament Buildings on Friday that a National Economic Dialogue is necessary to address the nation’s overall economic problems.
“Let our political competition be at the level of competing economic ideas. We, therefore, wish to encourage all Kenyans who wish to participate in the demonstrations planned for next week, to do so peacefully and in a manner that strengthens democratic rule and does not encourage anarchy and breakdown of law and order,” they said in a press statement read on their behalf by South South legislator Karoli Omondi.
He was accompanied by Kisumu Senator Prof Tom Ojienda and MPs Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Paul Abuor (Rongo), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) and Felix Odiwour alias Jalango (Langata).
The lawmakers reckoned that they acknowledge the right of every citizen or group of citizens to picket and hold demonstrations as an expression of their political aspirations, such actions must be done within the confines of the constitution.
“We appreciate that such actions are essential to the advancement of our democracy. It is our firm belief that such demonstrations must be peaceful and orderly, and not injure the rights and property of others,” they added.
Although elected on the ODM party ticket, they will not be participating in the planned demonstrations.
“We equally urge our constituents to do likewise. We encourage those who will join the demonstrations to return to their normal economic and social activities as soon as possible, especially those who engage in farming, to take advantage of the current rains to plough and plant,” they added .
