Larry Madowo has all the money in the world for Edith Kimani to ‘chop’—a slang expression meaning to spend freely—and he made that clear during their recent outing in New York.
The two celebrated journalists braved the chilly, windy weather for a cozy dinner date, captivating fans with their chemistry in a 26-second video clip that quickly made rounds online.
In the video, Madowo and Kimani, both dressed warmly in heavy winter jackets, appeared to be thoroughly enjoying each other’s company.
Larry, who is the CNN Africa Correspondent, even shared the clip on his YouTube channel, cheekily titling it “Larry Madowo and Edith Kimani Take New York.” He also posted snippets on Twitter and TikTok, simply captioned, “We outside.”
The video shows the pair playfully teasing one another. Larry towers over Edith as they walk, laughing and joking in the cold. He cheekily asks her, “Mrembo, umepotea New York ama ni aje?” (Beautiful, are you lost in New York or what?).
Edith, quick with a witty comeback, fires back, “Nitapotea aje na wewe ni mwenyeji huku? Don’t you live here?” To which Larry admits, “I did. That was the only right answer, by the way,” drawing laughter from both of them.
As they strolled, Edith was seen typing on her phone. When asked, she explained that she was looking for a restaurant where Larry could buy dinner.
Without missing a beat, Larry playfully declared, “Huwezi maliza pesa yangu,” meaning “You can’t finish my money.” The remark made Edith swoon, and she jokingly responded, “So I keep hearing. Una cheza na Mkikuyu wewe?” (Are you messing with a Kikuyu girl?).
The charming moment was just one of many shared between the two, who have consistently showcased a strong bond and mutual admiration.
Larry once took Edith—whom he fondly referred to as Nyar Kiambu, or daughter of Kiambu—to Kisumu, noting that “the daughter of the mountain loved the lake vibes.”
Back in July 2024, Edith, a DW journalist, opened up about the depth of their friendship. She shared how Larry mentored her in journalism and credited him for shaping much of her professional journey—while also hinting at how she’s equally had an impact on him.
Whether as colleagues, friends, or something more, Larry Madowo and Edith Kimani continue to warm hearts with their effortless connection and undeniable charisma.
