The stage name Samidoh is used by renowned Kenyan singer Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu.
The Mugithi singer also works as a policeman.
The talented artist was born in Subukia, Nakuru County, in 1990.
After losing his mother while he was enrolled in Form One and his father when he was three, he had a difficult upbringing.
“I was born in a family of six. We are six boys, and I’m the third born. My mum was called Miriam Wairimu, but she left us. My dad was named Michael Ndirangu. He worked in Molo during the 1990s clashes and was killed,” Pulse Live quoted him.
After losing his father, they were evicted from the ancestral land in Nyandarua county.
As an orphan, Samidoh endured several challenges paying his school fees but completed his secondary education despite the hurdles.
While in high school, he met his wife Edith Muchoki, who they are together to date.
Samidoh’s music career
He began his music career after high school after moving to the capital, Nairobi.
In the city, he joined Kamande wa Kio’s music band as a backup artiste. His elder brother was a drummer in the legendary Kikuyu musician’s band.
He then decided to join Kenya Polytechnic to pursue a diploma course in business and Information Technology.
This made him lose his job at Kamande’s band due to his unavailability. He opted to return to the village and worked briefly in a flower farm before securing an administration police officer job.
YouTube channel
He started releasing his songs as he juggled his work. His first song, ‘Ndiri na Mutwe Mwega’ posted on his YouTube channel with 360,000 subscribers, has garnered over 3.9 million views.
According to YouTubers, the benga singer has uploaded 35 music videos that have garnered 46.2 million views since 2011.
His monthly estimated earnings from the platform range between KSh 60,000 and KSh 120,000.
However, the musician earns more by holding live shows across the country. During the 2022 campaign season, he performed at former prime minister Raila Odinga’s rallies in Central Kenya.
Samido has also performed in the United States and Dubai, minting millions.
His songs include Tuhii TwituIhoya Ria Samidoh, Niwe Ndarathimiirwo, Wendo Maguta, Riari Itheru and Wendo Na Urimu.
Clubs
In 2021, the singer launched a mugithi club in Nakuru dubbed Unique Tavern.
The restaurant is adjacent to the Platinum 7D club and the Kunste Hotel.
Besides Unique Tavern, he also owns Sparkling Beachview Carwash Bar & Restaurant and another club in Githurai 44.
Rental apartment
In August 2021, he flaunted a rental apartment he was building in Nairobi.
He captioned his post:
“Grace means that all of your mistakes now serve a purpose instead of serving shame.”
He also mansions in the village and in the city.
Toyota Harrier SUV
To enable him to move around easily, Samidoh bought a third-generation Toyota Harrier sports utility vehicle (SUV)which costs between KSh 2 million and KSh 5 million, depending on the manufacturing year.
The car features leather seats, a sunroof, multiple airbags, anti-lock braking and vehicle skid control.
