Here’s wife statement to police on Buruburu car fire that killed Terrance Korir
The Late Terrance Korir’s wife in her statement to police filed Wednesday, said his late spouse had just — a few minutes to 8:30am Wednesday, April 29 — bid her and his two children bye before he left for work.
Buruburu OCPD, Adamson Bungei, told the media that Ruth Wanjiru, 29, revealed that shortly after her partner left the house on Mai Mahiu Court, she heard a loud explosion, and when she rushed out, she was shocked to see her husband seated motionless on the driver’s seat of his Subaru Impreza, with smoke billowing from the vehicle’s interior.
“She said that she tried opening the driver’s door from the outside so that she could rescue her husband, but her spouse had locked the door,” said Bungei.
The Buruburu police boss said when they arrived at the scene Wednesday morning, they found Wanjiru weeping uncontrollably as she looked at her husband’s charred vehicle in disbelief.
Bungei, on April 29 told the media that the fire broke out after Terance Korir ignited the engine of his car.
Korir, a dweller of Mai Mahiu Court on Katulo Road, was preparing to leave for work at 8:30am Wednesday, April 29, when the incident happened, said the area police boss.
“It is strange how the vehicle’s interior was the only part that was destroyed by the explosion,” he said.
Area DCIO, Adan Guyo, said neighbours and two fire engines from Nairobi County helped in putting out the fire, though by the time they were arriving at the scene, Korir had already succumbed to his burn injuries.
The vehicle, a Subaru Impreza, had been parked at the Mai Mahiu Court yard near House Number 465, police said.
“We must ascertain what caused the fire; we want to know whether someone else plotted the incident, or not,” emphasised Guyo.
The occupant of the car, Korir, was burnt beyond recognition, a report filed at the Buruburu Police Station by the Chairman of Mai Mahiu Court on Katulo Road, Cyrus Chege, said.
The body of the victim was moved to a Nairobi morgue.
Korir is survived by his wife and two children aged 3 and 1.
Homicide detectives have since taken up the case of Korir’s death, Nyuki News has learnt from credible DCI sources.
The fact that the matter has been handed over to the homicide team from the area DCI unit indicates that police could be treating the death of Terance Korir as murder, unless further probe counters the persuasion.
