In 2021, Mutua advised Kenyans to avoid voting in the ‘thieves and crooks’ that President Uhuru Kenyatta warned them against.
In a message that was directed to DP Ruto Mutua, he said that the said thief will plunder public resources should he ascend to the presidency.
“Just like a talented kid grows gradually from playing football with his peers to national levels up to international levels, a thief who has been grabbing land and stealing funds will definitely grow into a bigger thief if he rises to the pinnacle of the country’s leadership,” he said.
In 2019, Mutua accused Ruto of threatening to eliminate him. During a press conference, Mutua claimed that the DP, Kipchumba Murkomen, and Aden Duale had threatened him on two occasions. Mutua said he had decided to report and publicise the threats because of “Kenya’s history of political assasinations, political violence and intolerance.”
