Hatupangwingi, madoa doa and other 23 words have been designated as hate speech by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission.
The chairman of the commission, Rev. Dr. Samwel Kobia, said at a press conference on Friday that the terms were classed as coded messages that might be used to incite hatred.
“The NCIC has classified terms, which have been regularly used in Kenya’s political landscape with the intent to provoke violence among various communities of diverse political viewpoints.
“We have classified these terms as coded messages which can be used to activate hatred and consciously eliminate other communities. These terms are in various languages; English, Kiswahili, Sheng, Kikuyu, Kalenjin and Non-verbal nods,” Dr Kobia stated.
The English words fumigation, uncircumcised, eradicate, and kill are among the names classified by NCIC as hate speech.
Madoadoa, watu wa kurusha mawe, watajua hawajui, wabara waende kwao, and kaffir were all Kiswahili terms.
Chunga kura, wakuja, chinja kafir, kwekwe, and mende were among the other Kiswahili words.
Kama noma noma, kama mbaya mbaya, operation linda kura, and hatupangwingwi were some of Sheng’s terms. Kihii and uthamaki ni witu were Kikuyu terms.
kimurkeldet (brown teeth), otutu labotonik (uproot the weed), and ngetiik were the only Kalenjin phrases on the list, while Mwiji was the lone Meru name.
Dr. Kobia stated that his committee is committed to guaranteeing a peaceful election ahead of the general election on August 9th.
“We have intensified our programs to ensure this goal is attained. We call for an end of divisive talks and call for political tolerance,” he stated.
