Musician Alex Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, will remain in custody until Monday as the court awaits a pre-bail report in connection with an alleged Sh50 million property fraud case.
Ringtone appeared in court on Thursday alongside his co-accused, Alfred Juma Ayora, where they both pleaded not guilty to three charges brought against them before Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego.
The duo is accused of illegally acquiring a property registered under Teresia Athiambo Odhiambo, with the alleged offence said to have occurred on February 28, 2023.
According to court documents, Ringtone is alleged to have sworn a false affidavit at the offices of S.M. Katonya Advocates, claiming he had possessed the disputed property for over two decades. The affidavit was reportedly used as evidence in a case filed at the Environment and Land Court to support his claim of ownership.
The prosecution objected to the immediate release of the accused, requesting more time to complete a pre-bail assessment to help determine suitable bail and bond conditions.
Magistrate Alego granted the request and directed that the two be held at Capital Hill Police Station. They are scheduled to return to court on May 19, when the bail determination will be made.
