Gambler sues Betika for failing to pay Sh500,000 after winning 8-game bet

A gambler and the betting operator Betika are engaged in a legal dispute over more than 500,000 shillings.

The corporation has been sued by Mr. David Juma, a gambler from Nakuru who won a Sh500,000 jackpot after wagering Sh10 on a Betika platform.

On February 18, Juma and his brother Collins Kizito wagered Sh10 on the eight-game Sababisha jackpot to win Sh500,000 in the lottery.

Before placing a wager, the two examined the eight games that the betting organization had listed for prediction.

The bettor kept a close eye on the games after placing their wager to see how they would turn out.

All of the predections, according to Mr. Juma, came true, and they were waiting to claim their prizes.

They were astonished, however, to find that the business had incorrectly said that one match had not been successfully predicted when they went on to the website.

To try and fix the mistake, they made the decision to get in touch with the business, but their efforts were ineffective.

“Since then, it has been a game of cat and mouse as all attempts to contact Betika to correct the error and pay me my winnings have proved futile. My brother and I have made several calls to Betika and tried to reach them through social media but to no avail as there has been no response,” said Mr Juma.

The player lamented that he had spent time, money and energy analysing the games only to be betrayed by the company that had let him down.

In his case at the Nakuru Small Claims Court, Mr Juma sued Shop and Deliver Limited, the company trading as Betika.

In his evidence, he attached the betting slips and transaction messages with the match results to the petition.

Mr Juma alleges that the company’s actions were malicious and in breach of contract.

He wants the court to issue an order compelling the company to immediately pay him his Sh500,000 winnings with interest accrued from February 18 and other damages.

Resident Magistrate Edward Otieno directed that the matter be served on the defendant before it comes up for hearing on May 8.
