FULL List of Properties and Assets Owned by Martha Karua

Azimio La Umoja presidential running mate Martha Karua, has been engaged in active politics for over 30 years.

From 1992 to 2013, Martha Karua served as Gichugu MP.

The former Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant served as Gichugu member of parliament from 1992 to 2013.

During her tenure as MP, she was appointed by the late president Mwai Kibaki as minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs from 2005 to April 2009.

Between 2003 and 2005, she held the same position in the Water Resources Management and Development ministry.

Martha Karua’s net worth

As of July 2022, Karua was worth KSh 150 million, a significant increase from KSh 56 million she had accumulated by 2013 when she ran for the presidency. Karua stated she amassed her wealth from her long career in politics.

Her wealth declaration was in accordance with the Public Officer Ethics Act, 2003.

“I have declared what I have saved in the years I have been in politics and my opponents should follow suit for Kenyans to hold them accountable when they are in office.”

“My rivals should give the public an account of their assets and how they acquired them before assuming office,” she said.

1. Nairobi home

The politician owns a home in the capital Nairobi. She had also revealed the city house is worth about KSh 40 million.

Karua also owns a magnificent house in Kimunye village, Gichugu constituency, Kirinyaga county. The one-storey house with a grey roof has modern white finishing.

At the house, she unwinds on the balcony in her free time as she enjoys the beautiful serenity given the house towers over the rest of the village.

3. Martha Karua’s car collection

To ease her movements across Kirinyaga county and the country at large, Karua owns a collection of cars worth millions. In 2013, she disclosed one of her cars was worth KSh 6 million.

On May 9, 2022, she arrived at the Serena Hotel for the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party running mate interview in a sleek silver Prado car.

4. Tigoni land

The former Cabinet minister owns a piece of land in Tigoni, Kiambu county. The half-acre piece of land was worth approximately KSh 10 million in 2013.

Its value has appreciated over the years.

5. Marth Karua and Co advocates

Karua was a partner at Martha Karua & Co. Advocates from 1997 to 2002.

She holds an LLB from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s degree in business administration from USIU-Africa.

The mother of two has a career rooted in law spanning social activism, judicial, constitutional and political arenas.

As a lawyer, she has defended several human rights activists, including Koigi Wamwere, who was charged with treason during the KANU regime under the late president Daniel arap Moi.
