Kenyans can breathe a sigh of relief as the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced that fuel prices will remain unchanged for the period between 15th February 2025 and 14th March 2025.
In its latest review, EPRA stated that the maximum retail prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will stay the same, providing stability in fuel costs amidst fluctuating global oil prices.
Current Fuel Prices in Nairobi
Motorists in Nairobi will continue to pay:
- Super Petrol – Kshs 176.58 per litre
- Diesel – Kshs 167.068 per litre
Kerosene – Kshs 151.39 per litre
This pricing takes effect from midnight, 15th February 2025, and will be valid for 30 days.
EPRA’s Pricing Formula
EPRA sets fuel prices in accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act 2019 and Legal Notice No.192 of 2022. The authority factors in the landed cost of imported petroleum, taxes, levies, and other applicable margins before determining the final pump prices.
The stability in fuel prices comes as a relief to Kenyans, especially in the transport and manufacturing sectors, which are heavily dependent on fuel. Any increase in fuel prices usually has a ripple effect on the cost of goods and services, making this price freeze a welcome development.
While fuel prices remain unchanged for now, global crude oil prices and exchange rate fluctuations could influence future adjustments. EPRA continues to monitor the international petroleum market and will announce changes if necessary.
For now, motorists and businesses can plan their budgets with some certainty, at least until the next price review in mid-March.
