The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced that fuel prices will remain unchanged for the month of March, providing temporary relief for motorists and businesses across the country.
In Nairobi, a litre of Super Petrol will continue to retail at Ksh.176.58, Diesel at Ksh.167.06, and Kerosene at Ksh.151.39. Meanwhile, in Nakuru, motorists will pay Ksh.175.80 for Super Petrol, Ksh.166.63 for Diesel, and Ksh.151.01 for Kerosene.
According to EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo, the prices will remain in effect from Saturday, March 15, to Monday, April 14, 2025.
Regulatory Factors Influencing Prices
In a statement, Kiptoo emphasized that the current fuel prices factor in various legal and tax provisions, including the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as stipulated in the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and the revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation under Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.
“The prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” the statement read in part.
Stability After January Hike
This marks the second consecutive month that EPRA has kept fuel prices unchanged, following a significant price hike in January. The move provides some stability in fuel costs amid fluctuating global oil prices and ongoing economic pressures.
With fuel prices playing a crucial role in determining the cost of goods and services, consumers and businesses will be watching closely for any potential adjustments in the coming months.
