Ekuru Aukot, the party leader for the Thirdway Alliance, has said that Raila Odinga does not have the necessary academic credentials to run for president.
The former premier, according to Aukot, was improperly selected to run for president of the coalition party Azimio la Umoja One Kenya.
He asserted that the coalition party Azimio la Umoja’s members were corporate bodies, not Kenyan people.
“The members of this coalition political party are corporate entities and not citizens of Kenya. Corporate entities such as membership of Azimio have no constitutional right to vote or even be entered into the register of voters,” Aukot’s statement read in part.
He further argued article 137 (1) (c) of the constitution provides that a person qualifies for nomination as a presidential candidate if he or she is nominated by a political party or is an independent candidate.
“Raila Amollo Odinga and his running mate are not members of the Azimio la Umoja and thus not eligible to run under a party they are not members,” Aukot said.
He made the implication that Raila takes pleasure in certain extramarital affairs with government officials and has benefited from public funds.
The attorney insisted that the official portal president.go.ke, which is hosted with taxpayer money, published Raila’s candidacy.
He claims that Raila Odinga is plainly and publicly supported by the government.
“Raila odinga is blatantly and openly being sponsored by the state,” he says.
Adding:
“The commission cleared Mr Odinga despite the fact that it is in the public domain that the above named is using state as well a public resources and tax payers’ money to fund their campaign.”
