The National Delegates Conference (NDC) was suspended on Wednesday as a result of ongoing leadership disputes in Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party.
In a paid advertising, EALA MP Kanini Kega claims that the May 22 meeting of Uhuru has been suspended.
“Take notice that the Jubilee Party National Executive Committee (NEC) has suspended the notice for a Special National Delegates Conference published in the print media on April 29,” read the notice dated May 10.
Kanini instead said the party will soon convene a special delegates convention.
“The party will in due course issue a notice convening a Special National Delegates Conference pursuant to the resolution of NEC dated February 2023,” said the acting secretary general.
According to the legislator, due process was not followed in calling for the meeting, adding the special NDC has been supported by all party members.
“The other day the former president stormed the party headquarters accompanied by people who are not even members. We want a well-planned NDC,” he said.
The decision by Kanini comes in the wake of a petition by former MP Hassan Osman to the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) in which he has sued Uhuru.
He said his decision to call the NDC is unlawful, urging the Tribunal to suspend it.
“I wish to state that the respondents have tried to purport to remove or change the party constitution, membership and leadership when the same is unlawful, illegal and unprocedural,” he stated.
