Medical graduates in Nyeri were shocked by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua when he presented them Ksh500,000 for their graduation celebration.
On Saturday, November 19, Gachagua, who served as the ceremony’s primary guest, presented gifts to the graduates after reading his address.
He added that making the offer was his way of honoring and celebrating the 415 students who were entering the workforce.
The graduates were first asked if they were going home for a celebration or if they wanted one to be planned for them by the DP.
The excited pupils answered by reiterating their desire to stay in school to commemorate their accomplishments.
To their great joy, Gachagua honored their request and said he would leave the money with the school’s management.
“Are you going home or do you want me to throw a party for you? Do you want a bash? I will leave Ksh500,000 for these students so that they can have their party,” he stated.
He also stressed the value of education during the event and revealed that he has signed up for a Master’s degree course.
The DP continued that he wanted to earn a doctorate and work as a professor.
“I was at the University of Nairobi from 1985 to 1988. Those who said I did not go to school now know. I started my master’s in international relations with a bias to conflict management but when things got tough I decided to focus on clinching the seat,” he stated.
