The eagerly awaited event will take place on July 26 according to the organizers of the 2022 Presidential debates.
The debate will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Catholic University for Eastern Africa. Candidates for president have been invited to participate.
The Nairobi gubernatorial debate and the vice presidential debate will take place before the presidential debate.
According to a statement from the Presidential Debates Secretariat, “the gubernatorial debate is in acknowledgement of the central place held by devolution in our governance and the growing need to establish greater accountability at the county level.”
The Nairobi mayoral debate will be divided into two sections.
According to three recent opinion polls, the most popular gubernatorial candidates will be in the first tier.
“The first tier will feature gubernatorial candidates whose popularity ratings, based on three recent opinion polls, stand below 5 percent, while the second tier will involve candidates who have polled above 5 percent in the same opinion surveys. The first debate will run from 6pm and end at 7:30pm while the second debate will go on air at 8pm and end at 9:30pm,” the statement explained.
Serfine Achieng of KBC and Ayub Abdikadir of K24 will moderate the first debate. Mark Masai of NTV and Zubeida Koome of KTN will moderate the second round of the governor’s debate.
Waihiga Mwaura of Citizen TV will moderate the panels for both debates.
Analysts and governance specialists will be present in Waihiga to offer their opinions on the debate’s development as well as some of the problems brought up by the candidates in between sessions.
The other journalist will moderate the discussion and pose questions to the contenders.
“Under the presidential debate rules, the moderators will select the questions to be asked and shall not share the same with the candidates. They will not meet with any of the campaign teams or candidates,” the statement affirmed.
