Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, a former CAS at the Ministry of Health, has been included in Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s most recent appointments.
In his modifications to the various hospital boards, Sakaja has appointed Mwangangi as the chairperson of the Pumwani Hospital Board.
Her appointment, which was announced via a Gazette notice on Friday, will begin on April 24 and last for three years.
Additionally named by Sakaja as board members are Evalyne Ikwii Omasaja, Zahra Mohammed, Ustadh Hassan Ali Amin, Saidi Motokaa, and Ali Joram Juma Mkwambaa.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Mwangangi became well-known for her frequent updates on the virus situation in the nation.
She was assigned to the position of Director of Health Systems Strengthening at Amref Health Africa’s Kenya office in December 2022.
The young physician has also participated in a task team established by Governor Sakaja last year to examine and recommend changes for the Nairobi health sector.
After an impromptu visit to Mama Lucy Hospital in September 2022, Sakaja established the task force.
The task committee was headed by Githinji Gitahi, CEO of the Kenya Healthcare Federation, and included Olive Mugenda, chairwoman of the Kenyatta University Hospital, Anastasia Nyalita, Dorcas Kemunto, William Charles Fryda, Karei Mwenda, and Jairus Musumba, county secretary.
