Meet the billionaire who owns Guardian Angel, Nyamira Express bus companies

Guardian Angel has withstood the test of time as one of Kenya’s long-distance bus operators, despite tough competition from other transport industry firms.

According to its website, it provides passenger and courier services from Nairobi to important towns in Nyanza and Western Kenya, including Kitale, Kisumu, Nakuru, Busia, and Kakamega.

It has also extended its reach into neighboring Uganda, with buses running to Jinja and Kampala.

The bus company is owned by the family of the late businessman Ong’era Moturi.

Moturi died in 2019 leaving behind a multi-million empire that is now controlled by members of his family.

Rodgers Moturi and Julius Ong’era Mokaya are directors of the Guardian Ltd and Nyamira Express.

Guardian Angel has embraced technology to keep up with the changing times.

It has an online booking system on its website where passengers can book their preferred seats of choice.

This means one can secure a ticket in the comfort of their home or office with a smartphone to a computer.

The fare from Nairobi to Kitale is KSh 1,400, for instance, but this varies depending on seasons, demand and fuel prices.

The fare to Kisii is KSh 1,000 while to Kisumu one will part with KSh 1,000.

Its other routes are Eldoret, Webuye and Bungoma.
