Pastor Bernard Nzau from Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA), the man whose face has been causing an online stir as a meme for days, has reacted towards his trendiness.
In an interview with Tuko, Pastor Bernard claimed that he was unhappy about how his face was being used to create memes he termed ‘for wrong reasons.’
According to him, he only posted his selfie picture with a caption saying, “I love my wife in Jesus name.”
What he does not understand is how people were quick to turn his face into a meme, invading his family life, which has always been private.
He told Tuko that he never intended to be viral, and he was even unaware that he trending on social media.
It took his adult daughter to tell him that his face was making rounds in the social media streets while he was on a retreat in Mombasa.
He disclosed, “I wasn’t aware my face was all over social media, but while in Mombasa, my daughter told me about it.”
He complained the meme was portraying the church he leads negatively. Therefore, he requested authorities to intervene and bring the creators of the meme to book.
About his wife, Pastor Bernard revealed that he had been married to his wife, Pastor Anne Makau, for 35 years. He disclosed that his wife is a senior pastor at PEFA, Lucky Summer Church, and the meme was also affecting her ministry.
Away from the meme effect, Pastor Bernard attributed his longevity in marriage to trusting God. He revealed that their marriage was founded on trusting, respecting, being patient, and loving each other as instructed by Christ in the Bible.
The meme culture is becoming increasingly popular in the Kenyan Digital Space. While they can be used to light up tough moments, the creators should be creative not take things out of context, as was Pastor Bernard’s case.
