Babu Owino, a member of parliament for Embakasi East, has denied any involvement in the brutal killing of Daniel Musyoka, an employee of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
A few days after going missing, Musyoka—at the time a returning officer for the Embakasi East Constituency—was discovered dead in Loitoktok.
Francis Mureithi, Babu’s fiercest political competitor, claimed that there was enough evidence to connect the MP to Musyoka’s killing during a news conference on Wednesday, August 17.
“There is sufficient reason to believe that there is a connection between this murder and Owino and his colleagues’ illegal access to the tallying centre,” stated Mureithi.
But Babu fiercely refuted Mureithi’s assertion, asking why he would kill a returning officer when he already held a commanding advantage in the contest for a parliamentary seat.
“If I have intentions of killing Musyoka, why would I do it after winning the election? Who would benefit from the death of a returning officer, between a winner and a loser? Would I kill a returning officer that was meant to announce me as a winner?” asked Babu.
Since there were more than 50 candidates vying for various seats in the aforementioned constituency, the outspoken member questioned why he was being singled out.
He urged Mureithi to refrain from using Musyoka’s terrible and untimely passing to further his political goals.
“Stop taking advantage of Musyoka’s unfortunate and untimely death to advance his political agenda. Let the DCI do their work and respect the family of the deceased to mourn in peace,” he added.
