Azziad breaks silence on being part of Namwamba’s delegation to Paris

Azziad Nasenya, a digital content creator and radio presenter, has denied being part of Kenya’s Olympic delegation to Paris, France, stating her involvement was with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports.

“It is unfortunate that someone would come up with false allegations on such a matter,” she said.

“I was selected and mandated to represent the younger population in the Creatives Technical Committee. However, the committee was disbanded in June 2023. I’ve not involved myself since.”

Azziad states that she has always financed her travels out of the country using her own money, without government assistance, and sometimes with clients or family.

“There were allegations that I travelled to Dubai using money meant for renovating a stadium. At the time, I was in Dubai recording content for the #VisitDubai campaign, a trip that was fully funded by the client,” she said.

“The receipts are on my socials, smart people can confirm instead of believing rumours.”

Kenyans are demanding that CS Ababu Namwamba disclose the list of non-athletes accompanying the Olympic team to Paris, fearing legal action if not provided. They are concerned about the cost to Kenyan taxpayers.

“There’s no space, there’s no room for joyriders in Paris. There’s only space for Team Kenya to fly the country’s flag high,” Ababu said.

“Even the government delegation is going to be at its barest minimum. We have to tighten the belt.”
