Award-Winning Journalist John-Allan Namu Mourns the Loss of His Mother

Renowned investigative journalist John-Allan Namu has announced the passing of his mother, Gertrude Muthoni Namu, at the age of 70.

Sharing the sorrowful news on social media, Namu wrote in Kikuyu: “Koma wega mami wakwa 💔,” which translates to “Rest well, my mother.”

His heartfelt post touched many, sparking an outpouring of condolences from Kenyans and colleagues alike, a testament to the high esteem in which he and his family are held.

Born on January 23, 1983, Namu attended Strathmore and St. Mary’s schools in Nairobi before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the United States International University Africa in 2006.

He later completed a Master’s in Media Leadership and Innovation from the Aga Khan University in Nairobi.
