The news that one of Milele FM’s well-known hosts was quitting the station on Thursday, March 2, dealt a shock to the station.
Mama Taifa’s Evah Mwalili has joined the increasing list of famous people joining Radio 47, which is scheduled to begin in March.
With three major prizes under his belt, the gospel radio personality is among the most well-known journalists.
After Mwalili won Gospel Presenter of the Year at the Groove Awards in 2015, she established herself in the gospel sector.
She subsequently won the prize three times in a row, the last time being in 2017.
Mwalili has also been the recipient of Mwafaka Awards (2012) and Maranatha Global Worship Awards (2018).
Mwalili in her decade in Milele FM created a legion of loyal fans making her Ligi ya Washindi gospel show one of the most listened shows in the country.
Testament to the popularity of her show, the show won gospel show of the year at Groove Awards for a record seven times.
The famed journalist attended the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) for her Diploma in Journalism and later joined Moi University for her undergraduate studies.
She is set to join veteran journalists mostly drawn from Standard Media Group’s Radio Maisha who have joined Radio47.
Hassan Mwana wa Ali a veteran sports journalist left Radio Maisha where he had been hosting Nuhu ya Lugha – Elimu na Burudani programme as well as doing sports commentary.
Other big names include; Lynda Oriaso, Geoffrey Mung’ou and Beatrice Maganga.
Radio 47 which is yet to announce an official launch date is expected to have national coverage in terms of frequency and will broadcast in the Swahili language.
