In a recent chat with Mungai Eve, Nicholas Kioko and Ashley Wambo shared how having their twin boys drastically shifted their outlook on life.
Kioko mentioned that they now spend about KSh 58,000 monthly on formula for their sons.
Ashley explained that after breastfeeding for only three months, she felt overwhelmed, leading them to transition to formula feeding. This change has significantly impacted their parenting experience.
“The kids have really kept us on our toes. You know raising twins isn’t the same as raising just one child. With twins, you really have to be financially prepared. I breastfed for the first three months, but it became overwhelming. It’s not that I didn’t have milk, but I just didn’t have enough.
I could breastfeed, but by the third month, I was exhausted. It was just tiring, and since there were two babies, we decided to switch to formula,” Wambo Ashley explained.
Kioko then broke down the cost of the expensive formula they were using.
“At that time, we were buying a tin that cost KSh 1,960, which would last only 18 hours. That comes to around KSh 58,000 per month. It’s very expensive, so don’t have kids if you’re not ready,” Kioko emphasized.
Regarding how they ended up living together as a couple, Kioko revealed that it wasn’t planned, but rather the pregnancy brought them together.
“The pregnancy is what made us start living together. She had completely refused to move in with me. I even had to move to a different house, but she still refused,” Kioko disclosed.
“After I moved, we had a disagreement. I tried to persuade her, but she didn’t want to, so I decided to stay quiet. The next day, she texted me saying she was coming to pick up her clothes in the evening. She came for her clothes and never returned. That’s how it ended, and she later found out she was pregnant,” Kioko added.
