Kenyan content creator Alma Mutheu recently shed light on financial strains in her relationship with her boyfriend, Gift, sparking mixed reactions from fans.
During a candid conversation with media personality Obinna, Alma revealed she has been the primary financial provider in their two-year relationship, a reality far removed from the picture-perfect love story they often portray online.
Alma and Gift have been together for two years, often sharing endearing photos and videos that earned them the title of “couple goals” among their followers.
Fans admired their apparent love and companionship, but Alma’s revelations have painted a more complex picture.
“Not all that glitters is gold,” Alma said, explaining that behind their curated social media posts, the couple has faced ongoing challenges, particularly over financial responsibilities.

Gift’s Grievances: Alma Overreacts
During their discussion with Obinna, the couple aired grievances about each other. Gift started by expressing his disappointment over a seemingly minor issue: Alma’s lack of effort on his birthday.
Instead of a heartfelt message, she simply posted “HBD,” which left him feeling unappreciated.
While he brushed it off as no big deal, Gift admitted he wishes Alma would stop overreacting to situations.
Alma’s Frustrations on Paying All the Bills
In response, Alma dropped a bombshell that left fans divided. She revealed that she has been handling most of the financial responsibilities in their relationship, including paying rent, fueling the car, and other major expenses.
“Gift contributes sometimes,” Alma said, explaining that his contributions are often limited to smaller costs like food or electricity tokens. Initially, she accepted the arrangement out of love, but over time, it has left her feeling drained.
“It’s fine if someone is not financially stable for a while, but after years of being together, it becomes exhausting to shoulder everything,” Alma shared.
When the couple first met, Gift had a job, and Alma, already an established influencer, believed that love would see them through any struggles. “I thought we could do this because love wins all the time,” she said.
“But eventually, you realise that as a woman, you also want to feel cared for, to feel like this is your man, someone who can take care of you.”

Financial Tensions and Growing Arguments
Alma admitted that their second year together has been particularly challenging. Financial strain led to frequent arguments, with Alma questioning why she was still managing the bulk of their expenses.
“When we met, I was told to leave Gift by so many people, but I held on because I loved him,” she said.
“I gave him time to figure things out, and he’s still trying, but it’s hard when you’re the one paying rent, fueling the car, and covering everything else.”
Despite her frustrations, Alma was quick to defend Gift, describing him as someone who can work hard when pushed. “I’m not saying Gift is a bad person. He’s hardworking when motivated, and he does help out sometimes.”
Gift’s Side of the Story
Gift, however, had a slightly different perspective. He clarified that he hasn’t officially moved in with Alma, even though they spend a lot of time together due to their work schedules.
“I haven’t moved in with Alma,” he explained. “We just spend a lot of time together because of the nature of our jobs.”
Alma disagreed, pointing out that Gift spends most nights at her house and keeps his clothes there.
She also revealed that she has asked him for space on multiple occasions to reflect on their relationship, but Gift has yet to oblige.
When asked what he loves most about Alma, Gift praised her for being supportive. Interestingly, when asked about her weaknesses, he said he couldn’t think of any. Alma also struggled to identify Gift’s strengths.
