Why Akorino Bishop Johana is trending in social media
Kenyans are offended by a widely shared video showing an Akorino preacher giving his female congregant “blessings.”
In a video, a man going by the name of Danson Gichuhi, also known as Bishop Johana, indecently touches a woman who is lying on her back and applying ointment all over her stomach and other areas.
The Bishop responded to Kenyans who claimed he had inappropriately touched a female churchgoer.
Speaking to Kuria TV, he said that the woman called Wanjiru had traveled from Nairobi to seek his divine intervention owing to the many marital problems she had.
The incident took place on a Friday.
“Her husband had deserted her, leaving her behind with three children. He dumped her for another woman. He comes home to see her during the day, then leaves at night.”

The female congregant found his number and called him.
“When she came I saw she was troubled. I told her the name of the woman her husband had left her for. She is called Carol. She asked me what to do.
So when you saw me on the video, I was doing deliverance. I was casting out evil spirits from the woman and they spoke to me and told me they are from Carol, and Carol had gone to Uganda for witchcraft to attract married men.”
He explained that he was able to help the woman heal from her problems by rubbing her body as was seen in the video
“What I know is that it works. I do a lot of deliverance to my followers, You do not do deliverance for someone with stomach problems by applying oil on the head.
You have to apply the anointing oil where the pain is, not on the face for example. That woman told me her problem was in the stomach area, and that’s why I was rubbing oil on her stomach. I had no bad intentions.”
The Bishop is married and said he would never be inappropriate with his followers.
“I have a wife, I have children, and I have a lot of things. I even work with my wife. She is a great woman of God. So those ones complaining about how I was performing my deliverance are those ones who are speaking out are my enemies, and because of blessings from God I must have enemies.
When a follower comes for deliverance, I must touch them everywhere without any bad intentions. Those ones who go to clubs even go naked and nobody says anything about it, but when a man of God does something to help someone, that woman told me she is now alright. Kenyans always condemn the right things but never speak out on evil.”
