Today is comedian Akuku Danger’s birthday. Unfortunately, it will not be a happy birthday for him since he has been in hospital, where he has been admitted since Thursday.
His girlfriend, Sandra Dacha, sent him a birthday message, wishing him a quick recovery.
Her message read, “Happy birthday @itsakukudanger and SPEEDY RECOVERY. This too shall come to pass.”
While she appears strong in this message (because she has to for Akuku), her followers could feel her sense of sadness, and they came out in large numbers to wish the funny man a happy birthday and quick recovery.
Terrence Creative wrote, “to many more, my brother.”
Aggie the Dance Queen wrote, “Happy birthday Osiepa.
Singer Janet Otieno commented, “wishing him a happy birthday and quick recovery.”
Akuku’s readmission came at a time when he was recuperating well. It will be remembered that he spent last year’s December and early this year at Nairobi West after his lung collapsed due to sickle-cell anemia, a genetic condition that weakens the immune system.
Sandra stood by him all this time. She rallied their fans to help contribute money for Akuku’s hospital bill, which had accrued to over 2 million. She also helped Akuku organize a comedy event that featured other comedians in the industry performing for free to help him raise funds.
On his thoughts on sickle-cell anemia, Akuku told a journalist in an interview a while back that the government was not paying much attention to the condition despite being deadly like cancer.
He argued that stakeholders should focus on educating the public about sickle-cell anemia, especially in Siaya, where sickle-cell cases are rampant.
Despite being sick now, Akuku’s battle with sickle-cell anemia reflects a story of resilience. The doctor told his mother that he would not live to see his 15th birthday because his body would shut down completely.
He gas defied the doctor’s prediction as he is now celebrating his 33rd birthday.
We wish this strong soul a happy birthday and a speedy recovery.
