Deputy President William Ruto is trending on social media yet again, for quoting non-existing Bible quote during an interview.
The DP referenced a Bible text in an interview with NTV on Sunday to illustrate how the followers of Jesus questioned Him what He had in store for them now that they had left their jobs to follow Him.
“In Mathew 17: 29, when the disciples of Jesus Christ were following Him, they asked Him; ‘we have left our families, we have le left our businesses. We used to be fishermen, we have come to follow you, what is in it for us?” William Ruto said.
The above-mentioned Bible verse, which DP cited, does not exist. In verse 27, the book of Matthew 17 comes to a close.
“Peter told him, “We have left everything to follow you,” the DP said, referring to Matthew 19:27 in the Bible. “What then will be there be for Us?”
The incident has devolved into a social media war of words, with his opponents slamming him.
A section of Kenyans, notably officials connected to the Azimio coalition, have disparaged the DP, who has fashioned himself as a God-fearing man.
While reacting to the Video of the DP quoting the verse, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu said: “Mathew Chapter 17 ends at verse 27. Praise the Lord”.
Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu on her part posed: “Mathew 17:29? Which verse is that boss? It doesn’t exist. Or we are using a different Bible?”
