A Kakamega woman working as a househelp has won the hearts of many after building her mother a house worth Kshs 60K.
Carol Kafuna (26) first came to limelight about two days when she posted a photo of a semi-permanent house made of mud she had built for her mother on the Facebook wall. She captioned the photo by explaining that she was happy to have finally settled her mother though the house was a simple.
Her post gained positive reactions, with most of the comments congratulating her for thinking about her mother despite working as a househelp, a career known for paying people peanuts. Some Facebook users also prayed that her income to multiply so that she can build her mother a better house.
As a result of this online frenzy, TUKO had to look for her to learn more about her story.
In an interview with Tuko, Carol opened up about how her mother was left homeless after her father left them for another woman. She claimed that sometimes her mother was forced to live in homes whose owners had died.
My mum was even forced to go back to her maternal home because my dad was not taking care of her,” narrated painfully, after which she further explained, “she would often go ask for a place to stay in homes whose owners have died.”
Like any child would feel seeing their mother suffer, Carol said that she was heartbroken.
She claimed that her mother sufferings motivated her to work hard because she wanted to make her mother smile by settling her in her own home. She saved religiously, and eventually assembled Ksh 60k, which she used to build the house in her mother’s matrimonial land.
Truly, it does not take much to appreciate a parent. While the 60k house may look simple, Carol has finally wiped her mother’s tears, a gesture which every child yearns for.
