From the videos and photos, the event was marked by pomp and colour as guests thronged the venue on Sunday night, May 9, at an unspecified location in the coastal city of Mombasa.
Abdalla, dressed in a white Kanzu and scepter in hand, arrived and was surprised to see his friends and colleagues serenade while wishing him a happy birthday.
The journalist was overcome with emotions after his wife Lulu embraced him and ushered him into the tent with the couple taking the spotlight.
Friends and colleagues raised a toast to celebrate Abdalla’s spectacular moments in his life- which were being highlighted on an LCD projector.
Among the guests who graced the event include Citizen TV journalists Faizah Wanjiru, Monica Kiragu, Emmanuel Igunza, Wangechi Muriuki and Hassan Mugambi.
Other notable figures include former Maria actress Wanjiku Stephens and renowned chef, Ali Mandhry. Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho also made a surprise appearance to captivate a star-studded event.
Performing artist Juliet Miriam Ayub alias Jovial took to the stage with her hit singles as both Abdalla and Lulu danced to a slow tempo.
The event was capped off with Abdalla and Lulu dancing as bottle sparklers and fireworks filled the air.
A fortnight ago, Lulu surprised Rashid when their three children appeared on TV singing a birthday song to their father.
The birthday surprise left Abdalla at a loss for words as he struggled to wrap up the Sunday bulletin.
