Kenyans have a bad habit of badmouthing single mothers. When we say Kenyans, we mean both men and women.
For Kenyan men, single mothers are careless women, and it is their fault they are raising their children on their own. They feel they use single mothers and dump them whenever they want.
For Kenyan women, single mothers are a threat to their marriages. They feel like single mothers are just hunting their husbands to find a cash cow to help raise their children.
Away from prejudice and discrimination, single mothers are strong women. They partake in the responsibilities of raising their children on their own even as they face a lot of negativity.
I tell you, they do an excellent job in raising successful children, whom people later come to admire.
So, before you start bashing a woman for being a single mother, check out the list of successful and wealthy celebrities brought up by single mothers we prepared for you.
Babu Owino
Politician Paul Ongili, popularly known as Babu Owino, was raised by a single mother as his father died when he was very young.
Babu has never shied away from disclosing that his mother sold chang’aa, a local brew, to make ends meet. He always appreciates his mother for working hard to ensure that he earned his education.
Rashid Abdalla
We all love him on our TV screens. He recently celebrated his birthday in a special way by choosing to celebrate his mother. He revealed that his father died when he was very young, forcing his mother to raise him single-handedly. In his birthday post, he appreciated his mother for struggling to raise him and prayed to God to forgive and bless his mother.
He said, “Asante mamangu kwa kila jambo najua haijakuwa raisi wewe kunilea peke yako baada ya baba kufariki lakini ulijitahidi. Nakuombea Mungu akusamehe dhambi zako, Mola akujalie neema na baraka, Maulana akupe umri mrefu wenye afya njema na amali njema.”
Lulu Hassan
Lulu is one of the most loved journalists in Kenya. We love how she works gracefully with her husband, Rashid.
Like Rashid, Lulu was raised by a single mother. Her father, of Seychelles descent, was never in her life, forcing her mother to raise her and two sisters alone.
In an interview with Jeff Koinange and Nick Odhiambo, Lulu accredited all success to her mother, who is now late. She reminisced how her mother worked hard to ensure she went to Aga-Khan School, a school for the elites. She claimed that the school gave her the confidence to believe n herself.
Despite her marvelous success in Journalism and film, Lulu is not completely happy. She always regrets that her mother died before she could spoil her for raising her well.
James Mwangi
James Mwangi is the man who transformed banking in Kenya. He is the CEO of Equity Bank. He is accredited for evolving the banking system to accommodate members of the lower social class.
He would not have been this successful were it not for his mother, who is now late. His father died, and the burden of raising him and his siblings was left for their mother to carry. James’ mother ensured that all his children attained a formal education despite living in poverty and struggling to make ends meet.
George Kinoti
George is currently the boss of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Even though he rarely opens up about his private life, he was raised by a single mother, who ensured the son got his education
