The issue of unemployment is rampant even as the country undergoes its toughest economic phase.
Many youths are graduating but are still unable to secure a job to fend for themselves.
For 35-year-old Geoffrey Shiloya, the unemployment nightmare is making him regret the years he spent in school.
In an interview with Tuko, he revealed that he always believed that education would be his key to a better future, but to his dismay, he has been unable to secure a job after graduating in a teaching course in Mathematics and Physics from Kenyatta University.
Shiloya also claimed that he had to repeat form four three times to attain a grade that would make him join university, but he now regrets that all his efforts are now in vain.
“Licha ya kurudia form four mara tatu ndio nikajiunga na university ili nipate afueni, sijasaidika kamwe. Nimetuma maombi ya kazi lakini wapi,” he explained painfully.
Shiloya claimed that he is currently doing menial jobs, a trend that has influenced his wife to leave him and his three children. He disclosed that the menial jobs are bringing in less income, and he hardly supports himself with his children.
He said, “Hizi kazi ninazofanya zimefanya mke wangu kunitoroka na kuniachia watoto nipambane nao pekee yangu.”
He went to reveal that he had no place to call home. He disclosed that his parents died when he was young, and his relatives took everything his parents owned, including the small farm they had. He said he was currently at his aunt’s in-laws’ place after the aunt died.
“Wazazi wangu waliaga nikiwa mdogo sana na jamaa zangu wakachukua kila kitu hata shamba. Sina popote penye nawezaita kwangu. Hapa nilipo, dada ya mamangu mdogo alikua ameoleka huku ila akaaga but walinikubali niishi na wao,” he disclosed.
He concluded by asking well-wishers to provide him with a job opportunity so that he can elevate himself from his status and provide well for his children.
