Tracey Chebet, popularly known as Omomo Boss and revered as the Queen of Kalenjin Benga Music, has opened up about one of the most painful chapters of her life—raising her daughter alone after being abandoned by the child’s father, fellow musician Kibet Mutai, also known as Kipsang Official.
In a candid and emotional interview, Tracey shared how life took a drastic turn in 2021 when her relationship fell apart.
Left to raise her child on her own, she became both mother and father—juggling music, family responsibilities, and her own battles with mental and physical health.
“I am the father to my mother and father. I am the only parent to my child,” she said with heartbreaking honesty. “I told myself, if I give up on life, my child will suffer the most. I do not even know where her father is. I am the only one who can give my daughter a better life. Right now, the only thing keeping me alive is my child.”

Left Alone in Her Darkest Hour
Tracey recalled how, in 2021, she had been hospitalized for three months and reached out to her child’s father for help. What she received instead was cruel and shocking.
“He once told me to cut the diaper into pieces and feed it to the baby,” she said, her voice heavy with emotion. “That is the day I stopped asking him for anything. From that moment, I knew I was completely on my own.”
She described how she faced life with nothing but her daughter and sheer determination. “I struggled alone. With tears and a smile. There is nothing I have not seen in this life. It was just me and my daughter against the world.”

The Weight of Responsibility
Tracey has continued to shoulder the weight of not just motherhood but also the expectations of her family and community. She admitted the toll it has taken on her mental health.
“Since 2021, it has affected my mental health because everyone at home depends on me. I try to stay strong, but it is not easy,” she said.
Still holding onto hope for her daughter’s sake, Tracey went as far as buying a phone to help the child stay in touch with her father—only for the child to be blocked.
“I bought her a phone so she could talk to her father, but he blocked her. How do you block your own child?”
When asked why she has not pursued child support in court, her answer was quiet but firm.
“I cannot force someone to provide for their child. I cannot remind him that he is the father.”

A Story of Silent Strength
Tracey’s story reflects the harsh reality many single mothers live with every day—unseen struggles, silent strength, and a love for their children that keeps them going even when the world seems cold.
Despite it all, Omomo Boss continues to rise. She keeps making music, providing for her daughter, and inspiring others through her strength and honesty.
Her story is not just one of pain, but of resilience. It is a reminder that behind the music and public image is a mother who fights every day to give her child a better future—and she is doing it with grace, grit, and a heart full of love.
