Nairobi, March 15 – Some parts of Kenya are set to experience scattered showers starting Sunday, March 16, according to the latest weather forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department. This follows several days of intermittent rainfall, alternating with sunny spells across the country.
According to the five-day weather outlook issued on March 13, the showers will gradually intensify, paving the way for more widespread rainfall on Monday, initially affecting a few areas. By Tuesday, several regions will experience consistent downpours, with isolated thunderstorms and heavy rainfall expected in some areas.
Regions Expected to Receive Rain
Counties in the Rift Valley and the Lake region expected to experience rain include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot. These areas will have scattered showers throughout the day, with light showers continuing overnight.
In Turkana and Samburu counties, Sunday will be characterized by sunny intervals with brief nighttime showers. On Monday, a few locations will receive morning rainfall, followed by sunny spells in the afternoon and nighttime showers resuming. By Tuesday, morning rainfall will be widespread, with scattered showers later in the day.
Counties in the Mt Kenya region, including Nairobi and Laikipia, will experience a mix of rain and sunshine over the coming days. Sunday morning may see a few showers, followed by scattered afternoon showers.
Monday will bring morning rain in several places, with more widespread showers in the afternoon. By Tuesday, rainfall will intensify, with showers expected throughout the morning and afternoon.
The North-Eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will generally experience dry conditions with occasional showers. On Sunday, sunny intervals will dominate, with partly cloudy skies at night. Monday and Tuesday will bring light showers in the morning and evening, with clear skies at night.
Counties including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River will experience light rainfall throughout the week. Sunday will have morning rain in a few places, followed by scattered afternoon and nighttime showers. Monday and Tuesday will see similar conditions, with more widespread morning rainfall and heavier showers in the afternoon and evening.
Coastal Region to Experience Minimal Rainfall
The weatherman forecasts that Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal parts of Tana River will receive the least amount of rain compared to other regions. Rainfall will be light and scattered throughout the day and night, affecting only a few places.
“This forecast should be used in conjunction with the daily (24-hour) forecast issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department. For more detailed and county-specific weather information, residents can refer to the offices of the respective County Directors of Meteorological Services,” urged Dr. David Gikungu, Director, Kenya Meteorological Department.
