Spanish delivery giant Glovo has announced plans to establish its largest real-time operations (RTO) centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
The facility will serve as the company’s operational hub, overseeing real-time activities across the 23 countries where Glovo operates.
The new RTO centre, set to employ over 160 agents working around the clock, will be a key driver of the company’s operational efficiency.
It will focus on streamlining processes such as rider onboarding, compliance enforcement, and offering localized language support in Arabic, French, and other key languages to cater to various markets.
Speaking during a site visit by Kenya’s investment promotion Principal Secretary Abubakar Hassan, Glovo Kenya General Manager Caroline Mutuku highlighted the strategic importance of the hub.
“The RTO centre will become a hub for Kenya’s vibrant and talented Gen Z workforce, showcasing the country’s potential to lead in global innovation,” she said.
Chidera Akwuba, Glovo’s head of public and government relations for sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized the company’s vision to leverage Kenya’s innovative ecosystem to create lasting economic benefits.
“Glovo’s partnerships with Kenyan businesses and stakeholders align with our vision of sustainable economic growth. By supporting SMEs, leveraging Kenya’s innovative ecosystem, and fostering collaboration, we aim to create long-term value and impact for the Kenyan economy,” Akwuba noted.
The centre will also reinforce Glovo’s commitment to social impact and SME empowerment, aligning with its broader mission of fostering inclusive development.
Glovo markets
Kenya has become a strategic market for Glovo.
A 2023 report by the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) revealed that Glovo is the country’s most preferred platform for food and grocery delivery, commanding a 33 percent share of the market.
The platform was also praised as a pioneering multi-category delivery service, operating in Southern and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Principal Secretary Hassan commended the initiative, calling the RTO centre a model of innovation that will contribute to Kenya’s digital economic transformation.
This move solidifies Nairobi’s position as a hub for innovation and positions Kenya as a leader in attracting global tech investments.
