Diamond Platnumz has finally addressed his controversial absence at the Furaha City Festival in Nairobi.
Despite reportedly being paid a hefty $150,000 (approximately Ksh19.5 million) to headline the event, the Tanzanian star left without performing and insists he will not refund the money.
In a video statement to his fans, Diamond defended his actions, citing his strict adherence to professional policies, particularly regarding performance schedules.
“I cannot be paid $150,000 and then fight to perform on stage,” he said. “I arrive at the venue on time and wait for the organizer to call me to the stage. If my scheduled time lapses, I leave the venue, and no refunds will be issued.”
Diamond stressed that he avoids disputes with organizers or fellow artists to secure his performance slot.
“I don’t negotiate or fight with other artistes to perform. That’s not my discipline,” he emphasized.
Responding to Willy Paul’s Allegations
Diamond also dismissed accusations from Kenyan artist Willy Paul, who claimed Diamond’s team barred him from performing so the Tanzanian star could take the stage first.
“It would be foolish of me to do that; how does it even make sense?” Diamond questioned. “As the headliner, all other artists perform before me. Willy Paul is creating unnecessary drama. Music is about hard work and management, not clout or sympathy.”

Chaos at the Venue
Describing the events of the night, Diamond said he arrived early but chose to wait in his car to avoid backstage commotion.
“From the moment I got there, chaos erupted and didn’t seem to stop. My manager contacted the organizer, who assured us they needed just 10 more minutes, but the disorder eventually reached my car,” he explained.
As the situation worsened, Diamond’s team decided to return him to his hotel.
“There was chaos everywhere. Performing under such conditions is impossible, and others may interpret it as disrespectful,” he added.
Diamond said he waited nearly three hours but could not perform, expressing disappointment while standing firm on his decision.
Organizers’ Response
Furaha City Festival organizers released a statement addressing the debacle.
“We regret to announce that Diamond Platnumz did not perform as scheduled. Despite our efforts to ensure seamless plans, his team’s demands and behavior proved regrettable and unnecessarily overbearing,” the statement read.
They acknowledged a minor security incident involving another artist but insisted it was resolved promptly.
“We ensured the event continued safely and professionally, treating all artists equally and upholding high standards,” they added.
The organizers praised Kenyan artists for their performances, saying, “Our local talent outshone expectations with unmatched energy and professionalism. We are grateful for their commitment to giving the audience an unforgettable experience.”
Diamond’s Final Word
Despite public backlash, Diamond stood by his principles.
“If someone creates trouble, I won’t engage. Music requires hard work, not online drama,” he concluded, reiterating his commitment to professionalism—even if it means keeping $150,000 without taking the stage.
