DCI Arrests Prime Suspect in the Murder of ‘Akoko the Billionaire’
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kibra have apprehended Brian Otieno Maurice, the main suspect in the murder of Sospeter Osunga, widely known as “Akoko the Billionaire.”
The DCI confirmed in a statement that Otieno would face murder charges on Monday.
The Fatal Incident
The tragic event occurred on November 18, 2024, in the Ayani area, where Osunga sustained fatal injuries after being attacked by a gang. The assailants reportedly used a sharp object to inflict severe wounds on his back, which ultimately led to his untimely death.
The murder sparked widespread public outrage, with residents demanding justice for the young man.
Investigations and Arrests
The DCI’s investigation into the case initially led to the arrest of three suspects. These individuals provided vital information that, combined with additional intelligence, helped detectives track down and arrest Brian Otieno Maurice.
In their statement, the DCI urged the public to maintain peace and avoid actions that could escalate violence or result in further loss of life.
“The DCI implores members of the public to embrace peace and avoid infractions that may lead to unnecessary loss of lives and disruption of peace within our neighborhoods,” the statement read.
Who Was Akoko the Billionaire?
Sospeter Onyango Osunga, famously known as “Billionaire Akoko” or “Sirikal,” was a 23-year-old architecture student at Kirinyaga University. He hailed from Gem in Siaya County.
Akoko rose to fame on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where he flaunted a lavish lifestyle, featuring luxury cars, extravagant parties, and opulent outings. His sudden rise to wealth left many questioning the sources of his income, which remained undisclosed.
